Seol Yeong (설영), the Bare-Handed Witch (소수마녀 — 素手魔女), One of the Seven Evils, one of the Great Powerhouses outside the Central Plains and Jianghu.

As with most relationships between masters and disciples, the bond between a teacher and student in sects where the teachings were passed down one-on-one was particularly strong. While outsiders regarded the Bare-Handed Witch as an object of fear and avoided her, the disciple of the Bare-Handed Witch saw her as a figure worthy of respect.
Back when she was not yet the current Bare-Handed Witch Seolyeong, but merely her disciple, she was simply a girl overflowing with talent and curiosity. She genuinely respected and followed her master, who had saved her from a reality that was nothing short of hell. Her master gave her strength, food, and a place to sleep. Her master was her everything, and the Bare-Handed Art her master passed on, despite being scorned as a demonic art by others, was nothing short of divine to her. Her master became her parent and her sole family in the world. With her overwhelming talent and proper mindset, she mastered the Bare-Handed Art, which was an unparalleled martial art.
Before she realized it, she was no longer just the Bare-Handed Witch’ disciple. People began calling her master the Great Witch (대마녀/大魔女) and her the Little Witch (소마녀/小魔女). Though she had gone from an unfortunate and weak girl to someone no one dared challenge, happiness remained elusive. When time passed and the Little Witch surpassed the Great Witch, her master called her over and revealed a story she had long kept to herself: The secret history of the Bare-Handed Art, a tale her master had heard from her own teacher, who in turn had heard it from earlier ancestors.

Years later, the Great Witch peacefully passed away with a smile, leaving the Little Witch to take on the mantle of the Bare-Handed Witch. Unable to find a suitable disciple in the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult or the Xinjiang Province, the Bare-Handed Witch ventured to the Central Plains in search of a successor. At first, she was determined to erase the stigma associated with the titles of Bare-Handed Witch and Bare-Handed Demonic Art. She wished for the Bare-Handed Art to be called a divine art and herself to be known as the Bare-Handed Divine Maiden, just as her ancestor and master had wished. However, her efforts were insufficient to change the deeply ingrained prejudices of the world on her own.
- “You wicked Witch, what are you scheming?”
- “We cannot trust you. After all, you belong to the Demonic Sect and are a demonic being.”
Her resolve soon crumbled. She became the villain others saw her as and underwent a transformation into Seven Evils. Around that time, by chance, she connected with the North Sea Ice Palace and acquired information about the Ice Essence. At that time, the Seven Evils fell apart, leaving her with nothing but venomous determination.
- “If I cannot change others, I will rise above all as a god with sheer power.”
By mastering the Bare-Handed Art, a supreme ice technique, and absorbing the power of the Ice Essence, she could transform the Bare-Handed Art into the Bare-Handed Divine Art and herself into the Bare-Handed Divine Maiden. As had been the case with the Bare-Handed Art’s heirs throughout history, she, too, deviated from the path and coveted the power of the Ice Essence.[1]
