Jin Hyeon (진현), the Plum Blossom (매화 — 梅花) or the Plum Blossom Sword Saint (매화검성 — 梅花劍聖), One of the Nine Stars as One of the Three Great Sword Saints alongside the Azure Heaven Sword Saint and the Supreme Ultimate Sword Saint. He is the Supreme Elder of the Mount Hua Sect, one of the Nine Great Sects & One Union.

Overview[]

Nine Stars, during the Orthodox-Demonic Great War, all Nine Stars played significant roles, but among them, the Plum Blossom stood out the most. At that time, many even considered Plum Blossom as the Greatest Under Heaven. Even the Azure Heaven of the Namgoong Clan, and the Supreme Ultimate of the Wudang Sect acknowledged the prowess of the Plum Blossom's sword. This was because Plum Blossom was responsible for killing the Cult Lord of the Heavenly Demon Cult at that time.

Of course, it wasn't solely achieved through his own strength, but the symbolism of directly killing the Cult Lord did not fade. However, strangely enough, the Plum Blossom did not reveal himself in the martial world for several decades after the Orthodox-Demonic Great War ended. After the Orthodox-Demonic Great War concluded with the decision in favor of the orthodox faction, Plum Blossom descended from Heavenly Mountains and returned to the Mount Hua that was akin to his hometown.[1]

Background[]

When one first begins to learn martial arts, it's common to hear about the existence of prodigies. Among them, those who are recognized as disciples of the Nine Great Sects & One Union or Five Great Clans have no shortage of praise as geniuses. And even among the geniuses admired by others, it's natural for there to be distinctions in skill and talent.

During that era, the Plum Blossom Jin Hyun was precisely such a figure. He was the genius among geniuses, the one that even other prodigies looked up to. His exceptional talent blossomed and flourished faster than others. At a young age, he became a disciple of the Mount Hua Sect and was chosen as the successor of his the late master's Self-Enlightenment Divine Technique, seamlessly inheriting his techniques. He also participated in the Orthodox-Demonic Great War, showcasing his remarkable talent on the front lines numerous times.

Azure Heaven, Fierce Tiger, Divine Doctor, Flowing Water, Supreme Ultimate, Vajra, Tempest Thunder, Moon Slayer. Currently, they are evaluated as reaching the same level as the Plum Blossom, and they is praised as the Nine Stars. But the truth is slightly different. Just before the end of the Orthodox-Demonic Great War, the Plum Blossom was undoubtedly one step ahead of them. So when the other eight faced different Great Demon Lords, the Plum Blossom was the only one to join in the wheel-to-wheel battle with the Heavenly Demon. Also, with the help of Heavenly Luck, he was able to become a hero who took the life of the exhausted Heavenly Demon at the end.

Problem[]

Walking into the Demon's Fire (주화입마 — 走火入魔)[]

It's a side effect that any martial artist can experience at any time. Suddenly during training, there may be an invasion of demonic influence, a reverse flow or surge of inner power... The reasons are countless. However, the outcome is always the same.

Generally, Walking into the Demon's Fire causes calamity for oneself and those around, especially for martial artists at higher realms. When one reaches the limits of Walking into the Demon's Fire, they ultimately lose their sanity, unable to distinguish between heaven and earth, and go mad until their last breath, exerting all their strength.

If someone like the Plum Blossom, rightfully the top master and one of the few renowned figures in the world, were to fall victim, the consequences are obvious. The Mount Hua Sect, revered as a holy place in the Taoist community, would be left with only blood and corpses overnight, and furthermore, the land of Shaanxi would also be unable to escape the disaster.

At the age when the green surpasses the blue, the Orthodox-Demonic Great War erupted—for the sake of peace in the Central Murim and to elevate the Mount Hua Sect's prestige. Without hesitation, Jin Hyeon willingly participated and excelled on the front lines, claiming countless enemy lives while saving his comrades. He believed it was his destiny to become the Greatest Under Heaven, and consequently, the Mount Hua Sect's destiny to rise to the top.

But there was someone in the world as special as, if not more special than, himself. They simply hadn't been seen in the Central Plains. The moment the Heavenly Demon appeared amidst the mountain of corpses and seas of blood created by enemies and allies alike, Jin Hyeon realized with chilling clarity that he wasn't as special as he thought. And the brief words the Heavenly Demon left in his final moments thoroughly blocked the bright future of Jin Hyeon and the Mount Hua Sect.

Heavenly Demon: "You are like me."

Sadly, there was no time to curse why such empty words were uttered. The Heavenly Demon, with a small, inexplicable smile, took his last breath before Jinhyun's eyes. The Heavenly Demon's death meant the defeat of the evil Demonic Cult and the glorious victory of the just Orthodox Faction. However, the new hero of the Orthodox Faction, the Plum Blossom, who cut off the Heavenly Demon's life, couldn't feel entirely joyful. It was because Jinhyun realized belatedly where the sense of camaraderie he felt unknowingly while facing the Heavenly Demon stemmed from.

He, or more precisely, Self-Enlightenment Divine Technique, bore a terrifying resemblance to the Heavenly Demon Divine Technique. Initially, he doubted and tried to deny this fact vehemently. There was no way that could be true. He thought he was hearing things. He thought he was simply ensnared by the demon's cunning tricks. But it wasn't so. Jinhyun found this fact incredibly terrifying, to the point of falling into despair.

So, he pushed everything aside and went straight back to the Mount Hua Sect, throwing himself into solitude in the Nameless Valley. He dedicated his life to proving that the secret he alone knew was wrong. But as time passed and the Self-Enlightenment Divine Technique's mastery increased, it only proved the Heavenly Demon's words right. Jahasin Gong was indeed the Heavenly Demon Divine Technique, and the Heavenly Demon Divine Technique was indeed the Self-Enlightenment Divine Technique. The only difference was in their revealed forms: one belonged to the Orthodox Faction, and the other to the Demonic Cult.

Since that day, his worsening addiction to alcohol tormented him. No matter how much he blocked his ears and closed his eyes, Heavenly Demon's last image and voice kept haunting him vividly. Even after decades, the image remained clear, and the voice still echoed vividly. When he let go of the last remaining hope, an overwhelming sense of despair, unbearable to withstand, engulfed him.

Song Yoon-Cheon[]

Song Yoon-Cheon saw Jin Hyeon resembling his past self, reminiscent of his distant past when he grappled with his identity as a Human Being turned Monstrous Deity.

Back when Song Yooncheon became a Monstrous Deity, there was a method devised to restrain him from being drawn by his overwhelming divine power. This method was soon called the Heavenly Demon Divine Technique.

And later, after some time had passed, there was another method devised to control divine power, which involved leaving the Heavenly Mountain, where he had been with his followers, and staying at the Mount Hua. This method was soon called the Self-Enlightenment Divine Technique.

Naturally, as they both originated from the same individual, the essence of the two martial arts couldn't be different. Song Yoon-Cheon thought that Jin Hyeon couldn't acknowledge the disparity that arose between them and ended up Walking into the Demon's Fire.
