In case of emergency, he would wear a human-skin mask crafted by an artisan and, on top of that, another mask to disguise himself as a substitute for the emperor. The boy grew into a young man, then into middle age, and eventually became old. During that time, he wore four human-skin masks, serving four different emperors.
To be clear, the duty of guarding the emperor was exhausting. He had to give up his daily life, his family, and his friends, living solely as a protector by the emperor's side. However, apart from this, there was nothing lacking. The emperor, knowing that the guard could wield a sword from the closest proximity to protect his life, would never oppress his guards. Fortunately, this was the case whether the emperor was a wise ruler or a tyrant.
But it was only in his later years that he realized something. Despite being born as a person, he had left nothing behind. He had been nothing more than someone's shadow all his life. It was only after he received the emperor's furious command to leave his side for the first time that he felt an inexplicable emotion. Why am I following the emperor's orders? What do I truly want to do? If I return, it would only be to repeat the shadowy life I have lived so far. I truly don't know.
Though the Emperor's Guardian was one of the Strongest in The World, he realized that his life was not happy. Despite reaching a level that others would go to any lengths to achieve, he had nothing left.
